“Most of the time, vets already have a good sense of what’s going on. Ultrasound helps confirm it.”

Reproductive and urogenital ultrasound helps investigate conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, prostate and urinary tract. SA Veterinary Sonography performs veterinary reproductive ultrasound within your clinic, assisting with cases involving pyometra, uterine changes, ovarian concerns and prostatic enlargement. Our focus is on helping vets interpret uncertain reproductive signs with practical, diagnostic insight that supports clear next steps.
Mobile imaging allows timely assessment of reproductive concerns without the stress of transporting an unwell or painful patient. This is especially valuable when evaluating uterine disease, ovarian abnormalities or prostatic conditions where early clarification influences treatment decisions.
Onsite scanning maintains continuity of care, keeps handling gentle and integrates smoothly into busy practice workflows. Verbal findings provided on the day support SA vets in managing reproductive and urogenital cases with confidence.
Uterine evaluation is one of the most common reasons vets request a reproductive ultrasound. Imaging can help differentiate pyometra from other causes of uterine enlargement, identify cystic endometrial changes and assess for retained foetal tissue after whelping or queening.
Ovarian assessment can support cases of persistent oestrus, ovarian cysts or suspected ovarian pathology. Ultrasound provides a non-invasive, live view of these structures, helping you determine urgency and plan treatment with confidence.

Many reproductive presentations are not straightforward. Vets across SA often request a reproductive ultrasound to clarify whether a patient is pregnant, developing early pyometra or showing urinary signs linked to bladder or reproductive tract disease. Ultrasound can also assist with prostatic enlargement, cysts or paraprostatic abnormalities in male dogs.
While early pregnancy can be identified, routine breeding scans are not the primary focus of this service. Our goal is to provide you with clear, practical findings that guide your next steps.

Have questions? We’re here to support you. Below are answers to common queries about our veterinary ultrasound services.
Ultrasound helps assess pyometra, uterine enlargement, ovarian cysts, persistent oestrus and prostatic disease. It provides immediate information that allows vets across Adelaide and regional SA to clarify complex reproductive or urinary signs.
Routine pregnancy scanning is not a core service, as many clinics manage this in house. We can assess pregnancy when it is clinically relevant, particularly when differentiating early pregnancy from uterine disease or other reproductive concerns.
Yes. Ultrasound is the preferred method for diagnosing pyometra, assessing uterine wall thickness, and identifying fluid-filled or enlarged uterine structures. It helps guide urgency and treatment planning for SA clinics.
Ultrasound can evaluate the prostate for enlargement, cysts, abscesses or paraprostatic changes. It is valuable for male dogs presenting with urinary changes or discomfort in both Adelaide metro and regional SA practices.
Most patients tolerate the procedure without sedation. Mild sedation may be considered for anxious or painful patients to improve comfort and image quality. Sedation choices are tailored to each case and discussed with the vet on the day.
Some early uterine or ovarian changes may require follow-up imaging. We will advise if repeat ultrasound, radiographs or further investigation is recommended, supporting clear next steps for SA vets managing complex cases.
